Digital ID for minors
Minors, individuals under the age of 18, can obtain digital ID if one guardian signs the application.

Three ways to sign up are available:
A) Self-registration in the Auðkenni App is available for 13-17 year-olds with the consent and signature of a guardian.
B) The guardian must sign digitally before the minor appears at the registration authority.
C) The guardian and the minor must appear together at the registration authority and sign the application.
Please note! Both parties must present allowed personal ID at the registration station.
This is the process when option A is chosen:
A minor aged 13-17 downloads the Identity App and selects registration with biometrics.
Click the button 13-17 years old.
Go through the self-registration process with biometrics and passport, and choose a PIN number.
Sending a link to the data provider regarding the signature.
Then the guardian has 60 minutes to sign the application digitally.
Once the signing is complete, the minor can finish issuing credentials on their smart device.
This is the process when option B is chosen:
The responsible party goes to My Pages of Auðkenni and logs in with digital ID.
Click on the button Apply for a document for minors.
Enter the social security number of a minor and click the button Enter information.
The application is now prepared and the guardian reviews the document.
Click on the button Sign digitally. You can download the document by clicking on the icon on the toolbar above the document.
Now the guardian must authenticate themselves with digital ID to ensure that the same national ID number is registered on the application. Please note that the document is now hidden and locked until it is time for signing.
If authentication is approved, the document is republished and the applicant is invited to sign.
Once the signing is complete, a message will appear stating that the minor now has 30 days to go to the nearest registration center to obtain digital ID.
This is the process when option C is chosen:
The guardian and the minor choose the registration authority that suits them to attend.
Both have to present allowed personal ID.
The guardian signs the agreement.
The registration officer issues digital ID for the minor.
