Get digital ID in Auðkenni app

Two options are available:

• Self-registration with an Icelandic passport

If you have a valid Icelandic passport and own a smartphone, you can activate electronic credentials in the Auðkennisapp – anytime and anywhere.

• Arrive at the registration station

If you do not have a valid Icelandic passport or if the self-registration is not suitable for you, you can visit the nearest registration center with an approved identification document and obtain electronic credentials in the Auðkenni app.

Detailed instructions – Self-registration with an Icelandic passport

Conditions for self-registration:

To activate electronic certificates with self-registration, you need to:

• Own a valid Icelandic passport.

• Have a smartphone that supports NFC

• Vera 13 years of age or older
  (Those under 18 require a guardian's signature)

Here's how you activate electronic certificates in the Auðkenni App:

1. Download the Auðkenni App

2. Open the app and select "Register"

3. Click on "Biometrics (passport)"

4. Accept the general terms and conditions

5. Enter contact information
   Phone number and email address. It is important that the information is correct so that notifications are received.

6. Scan the passport's identification page
   The page with the photo, name, date of birth, and MRZ lines.

7. Read electronic information from the passport (NFC)
   Place the phone on the front or back side of the passport.

8. Facial recognition
   The phone's camera is used to compare your face with the picture in the passport.

9. Choose a PIN number
   PIN-1 (identification): 4–12 digits
   PIN-2 (signature): 5–12 digits

10. Sign the application in the app
    This needs to be done within 60 minutes from when the registration process began.
    If not done, the credentials will automatically expire.

11. Digital ID is ready for use.
