PIN number

It is important to choose a PIN carefully and never share it with others.

If you suspect that someone has gained access to your PIN number, you must revoke your digital ID immediately. You log in to My Pages at Auðkenni, click on the "Mín skilríki" button and choose to revoke the relevant credentials. It is also possible to revoke the digital ID through several other methods.

If you don't remember your PIN, you can obtain new electronic ID at the nearest registration authority.

If you don't remember your PIN, you will need to obtain new digital ID. You could use the self-registration in the Auðkenni app or go to the nearest registration authority.

When choosing a PIN number:

  • It is important to choose a PIN number that you find easy to remember.

  • It is important that the PIN number you choose for your digital ID is only used there and nowhere else.

  • Do not choose the same PIN number that you use for your online banking.

  • Do not choose the same PIN number that you use to unlock your phone.

  • Avoid choosing number sequences like 1234, 1111, 9876, 4545, and 0000.

  • Never write down your PIN number.

  • Do not choose PIN numbers that are obvious to you, such as parts of your personal identification number or someone in your family.

  • Do not share your PIN numbers with anyone, not even with family members.

Attention!
Auðkenni does not store your PINs, so if you forget them, new digital ID will need to be issued.
