Validity of digital IDs

Digital IDs on a SIM card and Auðkenni App are valid for five years.

Two weeks before your digital ID expires, you will receive a message from us informing you that you should now consider obtaining a new digital ID.

It is not possible to extend an electronic ID, so it is important to obtain a new one to avoid losing access to your websites.

You can choose between two types of electronic ID:

• To the SIM card. You go to a registration authority with a valid personal ID.

• In the Auðkenni app. The possibility of self-service or to visit a registration authority.

If neither of these types suits you for some reason, you can apply for digital ID on an Auðkenni card.
