Validity of digital iDs

digital ID on a SIM card and in the Auðkenni App are valid for five years.

Two weeks before your digital ID expire, you will receive a message from us with information that you now need to consider getting new digital ID.

It is not possible to extend electronic ID, therefore it is important to obtain new ones to prevent losing connections with your websites.

You can choose between two types of electronic ID:

• To the SIM card. You go to a registration authority with allowed peronal ID.

• In the Auðkenni app. The possibility of self-service or to visit a registration authority.

If neither of these types suits you for some reason, you can apply for digital ID on an Auðkenni card.
