Self-registration
The self-registration is both simple and convenient, but to do so you need to:
Download the Auðkenni App in App Store or Google Play.
Have a valid Icelandic passport or Icelandic ID card.
Make use of a phone or smart device with NFC support.
Must be at least 13 years old. Those under 18 require a guardian's signature.
This is how the technology in the self-service works:
When you activate digital ID in the Auðkenni App using self-registration, facial recognition is used. The camera in your phone scans your face and thus your biometric data, which are then compared to your Icelandic passport/ID card.
Attention:
During facial scanning in the self-registration process, lights will flash. If you have sensitive to flashing lights you can go to a registration authority to get digital ID in the Auðkenni App.

Self-registration with an identity card
Two types of Icelandic ID cards are available. The self-registration process differs slightly depending on which type is used.
Identity card as a travel document
This type of ID card has an MRZ strip on the back that is scanned during the self-service registration process.
Identity card that is not a travel document
This type of ID card does not have an MRZ strip on the back. Therefore, you need to enter the CAN number found on the front of the card.
This is how the self-registration works for 13-17 year olds
First, you need to click the button Biometric identification
One must click the button 13-17 years old
Then you go through the self-registration process and choose a PIN number
Once that is done, a link must be sent to the custodian for signature.
The guardian has 15 minutes to sign the application electronically.
Once the signing is complete, the minor can finish issuing digital ID on their smart device.
If self-registration does not suit you, you can go to a registration authority and get digital ID issued in the Auðkenni App.
