Use of digital ID on an Auðkenni card
When using a digital ID on an Auðkenni card, you must first install the Smart ID software and download a Minidriver.
Attention!
Unfortunately, the Auðkenni cards are not suitable for use with Apple computers as the software does not support the Mac environment.
Before you start using the Auðkenni Card
Open the Microsoft Store on your computer by typing 'Microsoft Store' into the search bar, which should be at the bottom of your screen.
Search there for the Nexus Smart ID software.
Once you have found the software, click on 'Get' and then 'Install'.
Double-click the application where you saved it and launch it. Use the default settings.
You might need to restart the computer.
Then you need to fetch the SafeNet-Minidriver (link below) and download it to your computer.
Click on the application.
Select 'Next' and 'I accept the terms in the licence agreement' and then click 'Next'.
Finally, you click on 'Install' and 'Yes' to complete the installation.
Usage
When you authenticate with the Auðkenni card, you enter a four-digit PIN code.
When you sign with Auðkenni card, you enter a six-digit PIN code.
You have four attempts to enter the correct PIN; if you fail, the ID will be locked and destroyed. You will then need to apply for new digital ID on the Auðkenni card.
Click here if you have an Auðkenni card that was issued in September 2022 or earlier.
Card reader
A special card reader that connects to the computer via a USB port. Card readers are available at most bank branches and at Auðkenni, Katrínartún 4 on the first floor.
