Read digital ID requests carefully.

When you are logging in with digital ID, you always need to make sure to compare the information (text or numbers) provided by the service provider with the information that appears in the authentication process. Confirm the comparison before you enter your PIN.

Do not accept a login that you do not recognize.

You should always have the beginning of the login process with digital ID. If you receive a login request on your phone that you do not recognize, do not accept the request.

Better to back out if you're not sure.

It is very important to be absolutely certain before you enter your PIN. If you are in any doubt, then you should cancel. It is always possible to start over.

Do you have the Auðkenni app?

The Auðkenni app is a new generation of digital ID that replaces traditional digital ID on a SIM card. It is possible to obtain digital ID through self-service in the Auðkenni app, thus avoiding the need to visit a registration authority.

It is important to be vigilant and know the main methods that scammers use.

Learn to recognize scam calls

The call appears to be from an Icelandic phone number but English is usually spoken. Common reasons for scam calls:

  • You are informed that you have a credit and offered assistance in getting it paid out.

  • The one who calls offers you a reward if you assist him with the purchase of cryptocurrency.

The scammer tries to get you to install a small program on your device that allows them to control it. If they succeed, the danger is certain. This is how you should respond to a scam call:

  • End the call immediately.

  • If you didn't follow any instructions, you don't need to worry.

  • If you have followed any instructions, you should immediately contact your bank.

Do not click on links that you receive via email or SMS

Especially not if you weren't expecting the message. It's always safer to type the URL into the browser yourself rather than clicking on links.

Do not click on links from other sites to log into your online banking.

Open a new window in the browser to log in to online banking or use the banking app. Make sure to check the URL in the browser, is it definitely correct?

Steal the message

Investment opportunities that promise quick and secure profits should be approached with caution. Take your time to thoroughly investigate and verify the source before you agree.

Do not use the same PIN number everywhere

It is important to use different PIN numbers, otherwise you may be inviting danger into your home.

Only you should know your PIN. If you have the slightest suspicion that someone has information about your PIN, change it immediately.

Never send your card details or a picture of your payment card

Even if you know the recipient, the information could end up in the hands of unrelated parties.

Stop playing on social media

If you receive a message that you have won in a game and are asked for your card number to deposit the "prize", then you should ignore the message as only scammers engage in such methods.
