Auðkenni was esta­blished in the year 2000

Due to the increasing demands of companies in finance and information technology for enhanced security in electronic transactions, Auðkenni has been owned by the public sector since 2022 and collaborates with numerous partners, including the financial sector, public entities, and leading companies in information technology and telecommunications. Furthermore, the company is also involved in extensive European cooperation.

Auðkenni's services are based on Icelandic solutions, developed by the company itself, and international solutions that are tailored to Icelandic conditions. Auðkenni's electronic credentials play a key role in facilitating communication between individuals, companies, and institutions. The year 2000

Identification established. The purpose of the company is to provide comprehensive services and consultancy in the field of digital certificates and computer security, along with related operations.

The year 2005

The collaboration between SBV (SFF) and the Ministry of Finance began.

The year 2006

Authentication keys have been implemented.

The year 2007

Signed a contract with the Ministry of Finance

The year 2008

Issuance of digital certificates on debit cards begins.

The year 2013

Issuance of electronic IDs in mobile phones begins.

Certifications

Auðkenni is a trusted service provider operating under the laws of electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions No. 55/2019, the company is thereby subject to the regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) No. 910/2014 (eIDAS) and undergoes regular certifications against that regulatory framework. Auðkenni maintains a certified information security management system in accordance with the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard.
